Recommended Usage

The TP-Link TD-8810 Modem/Router is an excellent choice for those on a tight budget requiring an ASDL1, ADSL2 or ADSL2+ Annex A or Annex M compatible Modem to run in bridge mode (modem only).

Fast, Easy Set Up
Setting the device to bridge mode is a breeze thanks to the Setup Utility supplied on the Resource CD. If you prefer to use the Web interface the Quick Setup wizard performs the same job in just a few clicks.

Everything You Need
The TD-8810 comes with an ADSL2+ Filter/Spliter, Quick Setup guide, Resource CD and one ethernet cable. This is all you need to connect up your Router or PC, plus phone, to your existing ADSL enabled phone line.

Reliability and Stability
If you are having issues because of the quality of your telephone line then the Broadcom chipset, in the TD8810, will definitely be an advantage. This is because Broadcom chipsets can tolerate higher signal variations than other ADSL chipsets and in most cases will maintain your ADSL connection more reliably and for longer.

Avoid Configuration Issues
If you already have a good quality Router with QoS capabilities or if you are planning on buying a VoIP ATA with inbuilt Router then setting the Modem to bridge mode will avoid issues arising from Double-NAT and Port Forwarding configuration errors.

We have found the TP-Link TD-8810 to be an ideal solution for the following situations.

Bridge Mode (modem only)
If you already own (or plan to purchase) an ATA with a builtin router or a QoS and/or Wireless Router and ...

  • want to avoid Double-NAT issues with your existing router
  • require a modem that is really easy to setup in bridge mode
  • your current modem is unable to provide a reliable connection due to varying signals on your telephone line
  • you are more than 3KMs from the exchange and you current Modem is not able to maintain a reliable connection
  • need an ADSL1 or ADSL2+ modem and you are connecting to a Broadcom based DSLAM (ie the newer Telstra ones) and want maximum reliability.
  • require an ADSL2+ Annex M compatible modem as you are using an Internode Extreme® ADSL2+ Broadband internet connection and you want to take advantage of the Annex M capabilities (Note: Annex M is only available on the SOHO plans)

Modem/Router Mode
Setting up the initial PPPoE or PPPoA connection for your ISP is very easy. You can use either the Web interface and Quick Setup wizard or the supplied Setup Utility. When it comes to setting up Virtual Servers (Port Forwarding) and QoS you will need to use the Web interface and the Advanced WAN configuration options. Below are examples of typical uses when configured as a Modem and NAT Router combination.

  • You are setting up a remote office with an IP Phone (something like the SNOM 300) and you only need to attach a Single computer
  • You want to restrict access to the internet (to a Single computer) for security or other reasons
  • You already have a switch or wireless router for connecting computers
  • You are attached to an Internode Extreme® Annex M DSLAM and require a modem compatible with Agile Communications advanced Line Tests

TD-8810 Product Rating

Overall Product Rating4 1/2 stars
Reliability5/5As a bridged modem, this is unit is an excellent choice. We’ve tested it with video streaming, file transfers, and VoIP and it just keeps on going.
Usability5/5The Quick Installation Guide and setup utility ensure you have the modem bridged quickly and easily. The web interface is responsive and works with most browsers. The manual is adequate for basic setups.
Performance4/5There always seems to be a compromise when looking at performance and reliability. For the TD-8810 the trade-off is performance. The need for speed is not what this modem is about.
Functionality4/5There are few leading edge features and capabilities included but the basic functions are well supported and work well for the job at hand.
Value for Money5/5The TD-8810 is excellant value for money especially for a modem/router with Annex M capabilities.
