Snom IP Phone Common Features

Snom VoIP phones have a rich set of features that are common to all models. Below you will a list of these features along with a brief description.

Feature Group Feature Snom IP Phone Features Description
User Interface Caller-ID A coice of caller-ID details can be displayed. Either the Full contact, Name, Number or a combination of Name and Number can be shown. In addition, if the callers’ number is in your Address book, the associated name is displayed.
Message Waiting Indication All phones have an MWI LED that will blink; MWI audible notifications can be set to silent, beep or reminder. The Dial Tone can also have the usual stutter to indicate that a message is waiting.
Speed dialing Up to 33 Speed dial entries can be entered. You can also call any of the entries via a Call button located next to the entry.
Local dial plan A dial plan can provide the following functions. Determine when a number is complete, automatically convert local numbers into state or global numbers or automatically append the appropriate domain. You can use a single XML structure and/or enter a dial plan for each SIP identity.
Call Waiting Indication Call waiting options include visual only (Line LED), ringer, both or off.
Clock, daylight saving, call-timer You have a choice of 12 or 24 hour clock, U.S. date format on/off as well as daylight saving support. The Call timmer clearly indicates the duration of the call which can be viewed via the call list.
Ring tone selection When ever you classify you address book entries as Friend, Family, Colleagues & VIP you can select which ring tone to use. 10 build in Ringer tones or a custom melody URL can be used.
URL Dialing support A SIP URI can be entered in the speed-dial and address book entries or you can enter one manually to dial.
Keyboard lock The keyboard can be locked by holding down the “*” key for approximately seconds. When locked a padlock will be displayed. Repeat the procedure to unlock the keypad. If required an unlock password can be used.
Call Features Caller Hold Pressing the Hold button while a call is in progress will pause the call and neither party will be able to hear the other. Pressing the Hold button again will resume the call. While a call is on hold, you are able to establish another call by simply dialing the desired number.
Do not disturb (DND) When DND Mode has been activated all incoming calls will be rejected except those from “VIP” numbers setup in the address book.
Blind and Attended transfer Pressing the Transfer key during a call puts the connected party on hold. Dial the number you wish to transfer to and when you push the Tick key the call is transferred. Attended transfer is achieved by first placing the party on hold and after dialing the new number you press the transfer button.
Music-on-hold support Snom phones support music playback when a call is placed on hold. The phones do not provide the music so this is only supported with the appropriate PBX.
Call Forwarding This feature allows you to forward incoming calls to another phone number under the following conditions. Always: any incoming call is immediately forwarded. Busy: incoming calls are forwarded when the phone is busy. Time: call forwarding is activated when the time entered has passed without the call being answered. Only one feature can be active at a time.
SIP Features RFC 3261 compliance All snom phones comply with the The Internet Engineering Task Force’s RFC 3261 Standard. In addition, you can specify a particular platform to support for each identity to cater for subtle implementation differences.
UDP, TCP and TLS Snom phones fully support the UDP protocol in addition to TCP for SIP traffic. When configured, snom phones act as a TLS client for Secure SIP (SIPS) connections and can maintain TLS connections.
DNS SRV (RFC 3263) The Internet Engineering Task Force’s RFC 3263 standard provides for redundant server support. If your ITSP provides DNS SRV records, snom ip phones can switch to an alternate server if the primary server is unavailable.
DTMF support DTMF is supported with In-band, out-of-band (RFC 2833) and SIP INFO. Because the VoIP encoding process destroys in-band signaling information associated with DTMF signals the out-of-band method is usually considered more reliable.
STUN client “Simple traversal of UDP over NAT” (STUN) is a protocol that enables an IP telephone to pass through a suitable NAT router without the need for Port Forwarding. A VoIP phone that supports STUN simply replaces its “private” IP and ports with the “public” IP and ports.
rport (RFC 3581) In addition to STUN, Snom phones support the “rport” parameter for the “Via” header field. When enabled this ensures that the server sends back the response to the source IP address and Port from which the request originated. This is as an additional method of handling NAT.
